What is Ladder Logic?
Tags: FAQ IEC Native Ladder Ladder Logic
Ladder Logic is the primary programming language for PLCs (programmable logic controllers). Ladder Logic's is a graphical programming language that uses symbols that resemble circuit diagrams and relay logic hardware. It resembles the rungs of a ladder between two horizontal power rails.

Our HMI+PLC (HMC) and PLC (MLC) configuration software MAPware-7000 offers more than one hundred Logic Block Instructions (commands used to create complex routines) for a variety of tasks. Ladder Logic is available in both the Native Ladder and IEC 61131-3 programming modes.

Ladder Logic Block instructions include routines for:
  • Inputs and Outputs
  • Data Transfers
  • Mathematical Operations
  • Comparisons
  • Data Conversions
  • Boolean Logic
  • Timers
  • Counters
  • Complex Functions
  • String Manipulation (Only available in IEC)
  • Special Data Processing Functions (i.e., calculating the difference between the current time and date vs. a past time and date)
