Engineering a Smart Solution for Low Producing Wells

Epp Well Solutions provides a novel solution for maximizing the performance of low-producing wells using automation technology to carefully maintain building water pressure without over-pumping the well by pumping well water into a holding tank until the well runs below a setpoint, and using a booster pump to maintain pressure to the house. The system has a variable recharge time and a "smart" optimization feature to account for seasonal variability.

Project History

Epp Well Solutions originally approached Maple Systems for Applications Engineering through the Maple Systems website. Tucker had already selected the hardware that best fit his application after browsing the product pages on Maple’s website and then finalizing his selection by talking specifics with one of Maple System's expert Sales Engineers. When asked what drove his choice in hardware, Tucker replied:

“After discovering Maple Systems’ products online, we were impressed by the small form factor of their programmable logic controllers (PLC) for the number of inputs and outputs we could have. We knew right away that we wanted to purchase a PLC and human/machine interface (HMI) to begin testing for release in our newest product.”

After receiving the newly purchased hardware and reviewing the abundant guides, videos and other training materials on the Maple Systems website, it became clear that given their limited in-house engineering resources, Epp Well Solutions would need some help. “When we got the hardware we began to run tests and learn the programming. Unfortunately, we were not familiar enough with the Programming Languages at that point to accomplish all of the complex programming that the PLC would need to run our well water systems. We began to follow the manuals and tutorials provided by Maple Systems to learn programming, but we were running out of time. We wanted to have our product much further along with development, but we were being held back by our lack of programming knowledge.” explains Tucker regarding his experience with Maple Systems Application Engineering services. “That’s when we reached out to their Applications Engineering Team for a quote to have them program the complex functions of the PLC and the logic behind how the HMI would function.”
