The HMI530’s (C/T/TE) were originally sold from 2001 to 2009. These popular 8” models proved to be top sellers for Maple Systems. While we no longer offer an 8” touchscreen, any of our current 7” touchscreens, along with an adapter plate, will serve you well as a replacement unit. Let us guide you through the upgrade process.
Before you start down any upgrade path, first determine whether you have a copy of the existing project, or, if not, whether you can extract the project from the existing HMI530. You may need to contact the OEM or System Integrator that originally created the project for assistance with this step. The cable needed to extract the program from the HMI is P/N 7431-0098A, and is available by contacting our sales department. Please allow two days for this custom cable to be built.

Once you have the project, you will need to convert the project from EZware-500 to EBPro. We have a Tech Note to walk you through the process. If you are unable to obtain a copy of the project, you will need to re-create your project in EBPro.

Serial COM port changes:

If RS-232 serial communications on COM1 were used in the original application, the pin out of the COM port has changed. Pins 2 and 3 have been swapped and the gender is changed. Purchasing a new serial cable for the application is recommended. However, a null modem adapter and gender changer can be used on the existing 500 Series cable instead.

If RS-485 serial communication was used, a gender changer will be required, and consult the appropriate installation guide to verify that the same COM port and pin outs are used on your replacement HMI.

Select New Hardware

Now that you have converted your project into EBPro, it’s time to select a new HMI. Because EVERY 7” model is a great option, selecting a new HMI is easy. All our 7” touchscreens require an adapter plate when installing a current 7” display into a HMI530 cut-out. Refer to our HMI Overveiw page or our Compare Models table for more information of available HMI models.
